An underground favorite of the New York folk scene for nearly a decade, Hawthorne is a mainstay at renowned New York City venues like Rockwood Music Hall and Joes Pub. The band is also known in the wider metropolitan area for their intimate house concerts.

Hawthorne released their eponymous debut album in 2016 in physical format, which sold out through in-person sales at concerts. The album was released digitally in October of 2021.

Hawthorne’s music weaves intricate vocal harmonies with contemporary folk melodies and arresting instrumentation. Their sound draws inspiration from folk legends Paul Simon, Gillian Welch, Patty Griffin, and Alison Krauss as well as contemporary artists Fleet Foxes, Glen Hansard, and Dawes.

October 2021 reigned in an exciting new era for the band with the global release of their new single, “Are We”. Hawthorne celebrated the release with a series of shows across the Northeast. They have since been writing and performing throughout the area, and look forward to releasing a live album in 2023.

New Single — “Are We”

Hawthorne’s new single “Are We” signals the start of an exciting new phase for the band. While sonically rooted in their Americana sound and featuring signature elements, including cellist and musical partner Karna Ray, it sees the band’s songwriting mature even further and move their unique sound into a realm that’s ready for radio.

The track is produced by Kiyoshi Matsuyama and longtime collaborator Danielle Warman of Chiller Sound (Bruce Springsteen, Phish). It features Jason Burger (Big Thief) on drums and Johnny Simon Jr. (Wilsen) on guitar.

“Are We” was released everywhere (including all digital platforms) as of October 22, 2021. LISTEN.
